Hi, I'm building a welding table, My question is, Would pneumatic caster wheels be ok , or would they be too springy? They would roll easily ,But would solid wheels be better? also would you use swilvel wheels all round or just at one end? Thank's for any sugestions.
Reply:Two casters, two fixed. Use 4" minimum, 5 or 6 is more betterer. I use the 4" steel wheels with rubber over them the sell at Lowes, HD for about $20 a wheel. Dont use pneumatics, as you will forever be airing up the dang tires and fixing flats. I got the bright idea to fill the things with that green crap, then had a blowout sometime later. What a mess!
Reply:Like he said, don't go pneumatic. My workspace is so small, all my drill presses, tables, etc. are on 6" swivel rig w/ the urethane like coating on the wheel. I'm constantly moving stuff back and forth and all around to be able to work. I don't care how light it is, it's on 1250 lb. rated wheels. I like all four swivel. A table is heavy, if a solid wheel is coated, it will stop and not want to roll over the smallest pebbles or debris. |
