In that I don't have a whole lot of metalworking experience,  I would like to know if I can put a 10" metal cutting blade on my 10" Delta Power Miter Saw,  and use that to cut metal pieces.  I am not working with anything any thicker than 1/8".Let me know please...Jim
Reply:me thinks that its not a good idea !! wood working saws have alot of plastic parts and the SPARKS and HEAT generated will hurt  your saw. a metal chop saw is well  worth the investment !brian
Reply:It's not the plastic parts of the Woodworking miter saw, it is the fact that they turn too many RPM's
Reply:Yes be safe, use the right tool for the job always. There's a method to the madness, disregard the method and the madness begins!!
Reply:Ok,  that's the info I needed to know!!  If it's not safe,  it's not worth doing.  Thanks to everyone for the information.
Reply:You can pick up a good chop saw for under $100 on sale if you look around. Just be sure to by a quality blade for it.
Reply:hoagy_econo,Max RPM on an abrasive blade is about 3900; my Milwaukee turns at 3600.  My Delta mitre saw, on the other hand, turns 4900 - 1K faster than the rated speed of a chop-saw blade.  Wouldn't want to stand in front of it...Look for reconditioned saws or used ones on the web.  e-bay has stuff all the time.  Also, HF and Northern Tool have deals now and then.Good luck, and be SAFE!Be well, hankj
Reply:I converted an old swing saw to a metal cutting one. It is belt driven. I sized the pulleys to get the correct speed.
