Anyone make their own custom hitches for ATV's? My Sportsman 500 has a 1 1/4" receiver mount attached and I'd like to build a custom hitch that would allow me to hook up my small 10 cu/ft dump cart and also add a 2" hitch ball for moving my 8'x5' utility trailer. Would also like some type of d-ring or tow hook. My biggest problem is finding 1.25" tubing. No one seems to have it around here. I'm thinking of maybe something like thesehttp://mobile.walmart.com/#ip/Komodo...-Ball/10741110 http://m.northerntool.com/mt/www.nor...5505_200465505http://m.northerntool.com/mt/www.nor...5505_200465505Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
Reply:Remove the 1 1/4'' and rework it for a 2'' receiver.
Reply:X2 on the 2" receiver.Harbor Freight sells the just the 2" tube with the reinforced front and cross-drilled hole for the pin.Weld that's to your ATV and then you have a wide open selection of hitches!I built a 3point to 1.25" and 2" adapter for my compact tractors and even welded a tube to the upper back of the loader bucket.Any trailer (that includes 2 gensets and a brush chipper) can be towed by any tractor or SUV in the fleet.Go for it. It's relativly inexpensive and opens all kinds of possibilities.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:Or keep it simple and just use an adapter like this...http://www.harborfreight.com/1-1-4-q...ter-65023.htmlGravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:Here is one I made a while back for my 800. The 1.25" is still there under the 2". It has been rock solid so far. Better than anything I have seen for sale. A friend just bought a 500 and I am going to duplicate this. I'll try to take some detailed pics and measurements when I do. I also made the rear bumper in the pic out of SS that will accept a rack or chainsaw carrier in the small square tubes. |
