I built this welding cart out of an old steel rack we had outside that was made out of 3/16" wall square tubing which made it pretty fast to go together after I took a flap wheel and cleaned all of the surface rust off of the tubing. The welder is a Lincoln Ideal Arc 250 that I bought off of a Retired steam fitter who was 80 years old and retired but still welding for his neighbors but he wasn't using this stick welder any more so he had it advertised on craigslist with the leads and the weldcraft tig torch with about 60-65 feet of lead for $425.But it did not come with a cart so I just made one with what I had around as I really enjoy repurposing things that are no longer used for one thing and make them work for something else. But I am still not finished. The open area behind the welder is for my argon bottle and I already have it in place with my cylinder hold down I made to keep it from falling off of the back of the cart and I will post those pictures soon. The other thing I want to do is put a removable table top with a drawer under it on top of the welder and to fasten it to the cart I will slide it into the open ends of the vertical square tubing on the four corners of the cart. The reason I want to make it removable is so I can lift the welder out of the cart in case I ever need to work on it. The front casters are swivel hard rubber greaseable casters and the rear tires are hard rubber tires with greaseable bearings as well. I used a solid shaft for the axle shaft on the rear and 3/16" wall DOM tubing as axle housing the support the shaft and welded it underneath the base to the center of the cart. To support the axle shaft on the outside edges of the cart I welded on a piece of 3/8" flat strap with a hole drilled through it on both sides. I will post more pictures to show everything in more detail. This is my first welding project I have posted on here and my first cart so tell me what you think off it.Thanks for looking Attached ImagesGood Luck and Never Give UpAWS MemberLincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCHobart Beta Mig 251Hypertherm Powermax 45Lincoln WeldanPower D10 250 ProMilwaukee PortabandEllis BandsawMiller AEAD 200LE
Reply:Pretty coolwww.Markcuda.com"you didn't build that"weldor does have two "E"sOk,I stand corrected, there is a word "Weldor"But,in this day and age, how many frickin'times have you heard a moron use the term(spelling)?

Reply:Thanks for the compliments guys. I think the most fun with building these carts comes from continually modifying them over the years as you add more equipment to them. I will post some more pictures tomorrow of the progress I have made on it since the last picture. Thanks againGood Luck and Never Give UpAWS MemberLincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCHobart Beta Mig 251Hypertherm Powermax 45Lincoln WeldanPower D10 250 ProMilwaukee PortabandEllis BandsawMiller AEAD 200LE
Reply:Nice ! We had a machine like that at work. Once you got heat set you had to tap a wood wedge in between the round dial and machine to keep it from moving. It would still work its way out  and you would have to reset it.
Reply:You dont want that old lincoln. They are crap. Tell ya what, I will come haul it off for ya for free.
Reply:You know this is my first Ideal Arc and I love it the arc is really smooth on it and it starts really easy. Anyway here are the pictures of how far I have gotten and I will post the pictures of when I get the table for the top built and the drawer. For the hinge on the argon cylinder clamp I used some more DOM tubing and put a 5/8" bolt through it and then tacked the nut onto the bolt so that it would not come loose. As for the other end of the clamp I welded a 5/8" nut onto the end of the square tubing and used another 5/8" bolt with a t handle welded onto it to keep it shut tight. The reason I used 5/8" bolts was that was some I had on hand and they were leftover from another project. The little bit of tig wire I have right now I stand it up inside the open vertical pieces of square tubing on the four corners of the cart which actually works really well for now. I will also try to integrate a tig wire holder on the side of the cart when I get the top of the cart made. Thanks for looking Attached ImagesGood Luck and Never Give UpAWS MemberLincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCHobart Beta Mig 251Hypertherm Powermax 45Lincoln WeldanPower D10 250 ProMilwaukee PortabandEllis BandsawMiller AEAD 200LE

Reply:I like that! Good job . If its okay I'd like to use some of these ideas in similar situations.-Pat
Reply:That is very well done and for sure a solid space saver. I have one just like it that I've had for 25 years. about five or six years ago I traded a garden tractor straight across for a Lincoln Hi frequency attachment made for that welder.  So its a working unit but No foot pedal and I do not think I can figure out how to put one on it.  Its a bomb proof welder. Mine is close to 50 years old.  Mac
Reply:Nice, next.. you need to add a table top.. just thinking out loud
Reply:Nice hinge.  Thats a good idea
Reply:Thanks guys. The next thing I am going to do is exactly like you said herbet99 is add a table top with a drawer underneath it for storage of gloves consumables and tools. However I am going to build the top so that it is removable so I can lift the welder off of the cart if I ever need to work on it. The way I plan to make it removable is the table will have four legs and those legs or posts will slide down on the inside of the vertical square tubing on the four corners of the cart and I will either let gravity hold them in the square tubing or I might drill a hole on each post a put a set screw through it but it will be a while before I get to do that because right now Dad and I have an John Deere 450B Track loader apart in the shed with the engine pulled out of it and we need to get it back together first before I start another project. Also AMWelder89 go ahead and use any of the ideas on this cart and that also goes for every one else on this site because that it what it is all truly about isn't it. I believe that if some one has a good idea that could benefit some one else with a project it needs to be shared and that it what makes this site so great.Good Luck and Never Give UpAWS MemberLincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCHobart Beta Mig 251Hypertherm Powermax 45Lincoln WeldanPower D10 250 ProMilwaukee PortabandEllis BandsawMiller AEAD 200LE
