These will be aluminum holders for trolling.  But, I have no idea where to find the inserts/ends.  Does anyone know where I could purchase a supply of them?  And, what are they called? Its the black plastic/rubber end the arrow is pointing to:
Reply:Easiest way might be to use this stuff:http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_DipCampbell Hausfeld 80 Flux Core.Mastercraft AC-230 Buzz box.
Reply:Look up a place called Outwater Plastics, they have everything like that
Reply:McMaster Carr ??http://www.mcmaster.com/#push-on-caps/=brkryjSpose it depends on the size you need."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:I have a bunch in my garage that I take out of my holders.  My inserts are white.  What size tube you using?  Maybe I could mail them to you if you don't find any.  I tried the plastic dip before and it did not work well for me.www.fishwithhill.com
Reply:Lots of great ideas!!Six,  How come you take them out?  Maybe I should consider not using them?  Your offer is very kind and I appreciate it.  I haven't selected the tube yet to use, so I can make them to fit your ends.  I'd probably only need four or six.
Reply:Tackit, Perfect!  Thank you!!
Reply:Looks like you have to buy a carton at a time..I would sure check out the ' PlastiDip' suggestion .. that is great stuff.. used to put handles on tools by dipping.... very strong...Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I take them out because half the time I am switching from light tackle for salmon and rockfish and then to heavier gear for bottom fish.  The gimble on the heavier tackle usually will not fit with the liner and one less part to replace as they get torn up.  If it was my private boat and not used for business then I would leave them in.
Reply:not sure where you're at but we have a outdoors store locally who sell those rubber pieces
Reply:Most of the commercial versions of that holder are basically vinyl (plasti) dipped.A cheap option for rod holder inserts is to use SCH40 or 80 PVC pipe.  you can round the inside/top by sanding or use a router.  Split the PVC tube on one side, multiple saw curfs if needed, to make it fit snuggly in the aluminum tubing.  The pvc tube will close on the curf and become smaller diameter.

Reply:Get some solid composite material and use the lathe to turn it and bore it. Force fit with a hammer.
Reply:That idea seems to costly. I've been searching for those protective rod holder protectors for quite a while. I'd like to know who manufactures them so I don't have to go thru a middle man.
Reply:try a company called capplugs. When eve I need a special piece that is where I go to . They will send you samples as needed to help to insure that you order the proper size
Reply:I'll have to give them a try. Thanks

Reply:I suppose this is better than starting a new thread when the same question is being asked
