This tank has a leak around the drain bung at the lower right in the pic. My FIL repaired it with JB Weld, but of course it still leaks.I was cautioned about welding on this since it's a pressure vessel and I'm a rank amateur. I think it would be better to replace it anyway. But if I get a new tank, won't I have to weld brackets on and stuff?Where can I get a tank? Sears?

Reply:Yup, I remember that thread and your compressor - and the advice you got from Jim & Franz at the time. Sears sold a gazillion of those machines over the years & I feel sure you could get a tank from them - probably for about what a compressor should cost. I would be inclined to search for an old one that someone has trashed the motor or compressor on through neglect. Thousands of them have been sitting over the years with little or no use or attention and I think if you can be patient, you are likely to run across one or something very similar. Check your local repair shops & ask around, watch the yard & garage sale ads. Put the word out. I think I would be able to find one within a week or two around here.
Reply:MSC has them here, kind of spendy though:http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF.process?pdf=3927

Reply:rusted,Have you looked at the ones that surpluscenter has?
Reply:You can always cut the brackets off with a piece of the old tank, and install the bracket assembly onto the new tank with bands. That method of attaching the mount to the tank was quite common \until the 1950s, and in my opinion transferred a lot less vibration to the tank itself.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
