I was like a kid at Christmas when I got my new inverter stick welder, and was practicing laying down some beads when suddenly there was a loud bang and a loss of power. I testedthe 110volt socket it was plugged into and was getting juice. This was a loud bang, not quite as loud as a 22 pistol going off. This unit is being shipped back to HF. The amp's were set at65, and I was using 3/32 E6013 rod. Friend told me it sounds like a capacitor blew. I don't knowenough about electronics, but I'm sure someone out there knowswhat likely happened. Anyway it's a pain in the a-- having to gothrough an exchange after waiting for a month (backorder) for this unit. Btw, it was a lot of fun learning to weld with it as long as itlasted. Anyone else experience problems with this inverter/stickwelder?Thanks,Don
Reply:dumb question, did your outlet blow?? i havent had even the first problem with mine, i haven't even set off the thermal protectionStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:Vipermanz, Sorry about the late reply- the computer has been giving meproblems. Anyway, the outlet was OK. I sent the unit back, andhave been waiting for two weeks for the replacement unit I ordered. This time I also bought the extended one year warranty. It is good to know you haven't had any problems with your inverter. Thanks,Don
Reply:3/32 seems big for 65amps... I'm new at this, so maybe I'm missing something???
Reply:40-80 amps seems about right for 6013.
Reply:The second unit blew up within 20 minutes of starting to use itto stick weld. That one was returned to HF along with an emailto the tech dept complaining about the quality control and the badpublicity HF is getting because of this inverter welder. I like thewelder if it would last- even told them I would be the first to buya new one if they correct the problem. These may be Chinese knock offs of the original Italian inverter welders that HF labledARC ONE a while back. Those apparently were a superior productwith better quality electronics.Don |
