A few weeks ago I had a repair job on a grain hopper. I had to get inside it to weld some baffles. Would have liked to mig them but my mig gun and spool gun was to short, so I ran the arc cables in with some 1/16" rods and made the repairs. I seen this Hot Max 20' spool gun on Amazon and got it to try to hook it to my Lincoln 180C. After it got here I started to do some checking and found that the brass connector was the same size but needed the end removed to go in all the way. I cut the end off and installed better o rings. The plug for the wires worked also. The tensioner spring needed to be bent so it would not dig into the spool when it unwound. The other thing was you can adjust the roller tension ( you can't on my Lincoln) and all the Lincoln consumables will fit this spool gun. I have tryed my Lincoln spoon gun with .030 solid wire but it didn't work very well. I put a spool of .030 solid wire on this spool gun and adjusted the roller tension and it work good, the motor seems to have more power then the Lincoln. I will be trying it with flux core and aluminum in the next few weeks. Any way here are some pictures of the mods I did. Reply:Just out of curiosity, do you know if the brass portion will fit into a connection for a miller? I got a suitcase extreme 12VS that I've modified to use as a contactor/gas valve and to drive the feed motor on the spool gun. Now I'm just looking for a cheap gun that will fit into the connection for power and gas. Any ideas if this baby will work or of another one along the same lines that would work? Here's a pic of my connection Attached Images
