I'm currently working on a semi big project making some cabinets, work tables, and wall lockers for some metal storages (conex). First off, I'm subcontracting this for a contractor, which will be the last time I do this. Second, this is for the oilfield so they wanted yesterday, cheap and nice...well the contractor wants it nice. Fast, cheap, and nice for some reason is in now Once I was given the blueprint, I noticed this was going to take some time to fabricate. All the stuff is to be fabricated from 2" x 1/4" angle iron, the engineering was done by the contractor so it was "over" done. What the contractor wanted didn't match the blueprint so I had to fix a couple of things on my own. I think the most weight that these cabinets and lockers will carry is 400-500 lbs. Here are some picturesThey sent some help, guy was a bit "rusty" with the torch. I'm glad that side is going towards the wall and welded.I'm doing everything myself (cut, grind, fit, weld), the help I've been getting is not working out...it actually creates more room for error. In order to keep the pace pretty quick, everything has to be dead on, notching with minimum grinding, welds with almost no splatter. Now, I was thinking square tubing would much easier and faster to work with, wouldn't it? No notching, all straight cuts and angle cuts. Did I mention that almost all the 20' joints were somewhat twisted and bowed. I know angle was used to keep cost down but I'm pretty sure a thinner gauge square tubing could of been used.
Reply:Looks good. A few 3/4'' pipe clamps or bar clamps could help with the bows and twists.
Reply:Looks good to me.I have a simple rule.  You can have it fast, cheap, nice but can only pick 2.  Fast and cheap, fast and nice, cheap and nice.
Reply:Man. You can take your forklift and sit the truck on that.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:The title of this thread says project input needed. What kind of input are you needing? Looks like you have a pretty good handle on what you are doing. The contractor is wanting it cheap from you so he can pocket the profit. Anything to do with oilfield gets charged to the rig or the hole currently being drilled and not an eye is batted when it is paid The contractor is getting YOU to do it cheap, then HE tacks on several hundred for HIS profit margin and the drilling company gladly pays it. Are you charging enough to make this rush job worthwhile to YOU?

Reply:True about the tubing vs. angledownside is that you have to notch the grating that is used as shelves, to accomodate the legs.If it needs to be stout, really stout, I'd have used square or rectangular tubing (sized to fit the loads). Your's will most likely suffice for the intended purpose. 2 by 1/4 angle iron is plenty. They just lack the strength to hold up against unwanted impacts from the sides, like when a forklift runs into them.
