When you are getting a ton of spatter , and the spatter is building up around your bead to the point where you cannot get a stable puddle going , what is the problem? Not enough amps? I am welding 1F using a pull motion with gun angle about 45 degrees on 1/8" mild steel 2x2" angle. We have two 110v millermatics , both with fcaw .30 wire , one welds 1/8th inch angle fine with the amps set to "10" (highest), the other one produces so much spatter I cant get a puddle going.
Reply:Picts and more info on the machines would help. Are they the same machine, or different? 1/8" is pushing most 130-140 amp 115v migs to the limit under real world conditions, so if you have a smaller machine that might be the issue..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:The fact that you have two identical machines, one welds fine and the other has problems, That implies you have equipment issues and not an operator problem.I'd suggest you check the polarity, gas-less flux core uses electrode negative. MIG and gas-shielded FC use Electrode positive.Lots of spatter is, more or less, a function of gas-less flux core.With fillets. gun angle should be roughly half the included angle between the two sides, For example, a 90 deg. fillet, the gun should be at 45 degrees. The "drag angle" should be about 15-20 degrees. |
