Hi allSorry for raising this again. I've never been able to weld thicker stock (due to only having a 110v welding equipment) but now that I've got a new Lincoln 256 I can. I have some 3/4" plate that I need to weld some 1/8" square tubing to. The plate is a base; the tubing extending vertically up. I'm welding this flat on my table so no vertical up challenges or over head complications. Anyway, I don't have any 3/4" material to fiddle around with so I'm hoping someone can give me any voltage/wire speed advice.I fully understand starting on the thicker material and letting the puddle wash onto the thinner, am competent on fillet welds etc. I'm just hoping to start off with some fairly reliable welds.. I really just don't want to burn thru the 1/8" mainly. I'm using 035 wire, 75-25 gasTIA

Reply:I'd wait until someone like "DSW" chimes in here on the good settings. I don't have a fraction of the experience these guys have, but if it were me, I'd set it slightly less than what your chart recommends for 3/4 ", then barely (weave) splash the bead over onto the 1/8" material. Reply:I'd tig weld it. But like mentioned I would set the machine right at or just under the 3/4 setting and push the puddle over to the 1/8". |
