Scored a eight inch Wilton Vice

I picked up a 8" Wilton Vice for free but it has been abused. It was used to hold pieses of 6" flat bar while they were being preped for welding unfortunalty the vice was getting groun as much as the steel was. I am planing to build the vice back up and machine it back to original. dose anyone have any idea what filler I should use for a cast vice. Attached Images

Reply:Do a spark test on it.  I'm not sure if it is nodular iron or cast steel, but that's the easiest way to find out.  Whichever it is, Wilton uses good metal, and I believe that is at least 60KSI.If it is cast steel, your idea sounds workable.  If not, perhaps you could build it up with bronze, but I'm not sure how well that would work out.That poor poor vise.  Ouch.

Reply:RlitmanMachining is not a problem I spent 30 plus years in a manufacturing enviroment I can run anyting from a drill press to a 5 axis mill after I retired I took up welding. After reading what you said I am thinking about maching replacment jaws that will locate off the business end and sides of each jaw. then brazing the new parts to the existing stumps.Thanks for the infoSkip
