Well, it's taken a while, but I'm finally at a point where my TIG welds look decent. If you would have seen my past stuff... you would know why I say "decent". LOLI know I need to turn the cleaning down still... but I was messing around. Ended up practicing from 8AM to 6PM yesterday.I attribute my "betterness" to this: (And the 20 series torch)These were some of my first welds of the day, I filled that whole pipe (that I joined together) and another one. Determined that right now, I'm pretty much diggin' 1/16th filler for my travel speed. I should be up at the shop tomorrow, and I'll snap more pics of that same pipe filled with lines.Using 3/32" 1.5 lanthanated. Going to try putting a different "tip" on the tungsten to see how that effects things. All in all, yesterday was a fun day. Dipped the tungsten once or twice... meh.JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)

Reply:Some more: (To keep track of my progress... still got a long way to go in terms of consistency)This actually holds water, had to jack up to over 200 amps since it was so thick. In the middle there I was testing to see how much amps I need, as I've never done anything super thick like this. That's all for now. Still got lots to work on, but I feel a lot better about it all, more confident that I atleast CAN get pretty decent.JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)
Reply:It's weird, looking at those pictures makes the weld look cold, but it doesn't look cold when I look at it. I think the guy I did that for brushed the welds...JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)

Reply:I tigged better at school with a smaller liquid cooled torch, then I do at home with a bigger air cooled torch on my Diversion.. I'm going to change to a smaller air cooled unit and see if that helps me a little, if not, I'm going to figure out how to incorporate a liquid cooler to it.www.thefusionsolution.com |
