Hello welders,Don't know this is the right place to ask this, mods, move it when you think it's nec esary.I' m planning on building me a bbq-trailer for the competitions i do.It will be fitted with one vertical reverse flow smoker, 2 kamados a generator, a sink and a big television. To be road legal in the netherlands it needs to be under 750kg or1650 pounds. For this i was thinking on welding a square tube frame and rivet painted alu sides to it. A oak top is what i want to finish it.Please post youre oppinion of my plan!
Reply:I'll upload the sketch asap
Reply:I don't know your location, but by me you can find boat trailers cheap. Might be cheaper just to modify one.
Reply:Thanx for the reply! My location is the netherlands...I was planning on buying a used trailer and just rebuild a frame on it.

Reply:Thanks mondo,The question was more like: would rivetting alu panels to a square tube frame work for a trailer?

Reply:Aye skipper!
Reply:If you're going to do a tube frame, I would add some angle iron to the top of the frame to rivet too. Also the they should be isolated from eachother to prevent corrotion. just some sort of plastic layer between the two will be good enough for that. Stainless rivets. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Thorshammer, i was planning on painting the tube frame at least 3 times, after drilling, and then rivet painted alu sheet to it. Would that be insulated enough?
Reply:Sounds like a great project, I'm hoping to put something together this spring also.Check out www.smokerbuilder.comThey have a bunch of info & plans for all kinds of smokersBuy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:Might want to run wood on the tubes with either self tapping screws or bolts then use scews to affix your aluminum panels. Will eliminate the corrosion and might be easier than all those rivets. Kind of how they do the campers. Do you have the ability to build the frame from aluminum? will keep the weight down."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400
