I can buy the Clarke ge 2000 bender for $65. The shipping from Fl. to Tx. is going to be $45. Is the Clarke going to be a better value than a HF bender that I can buy locally for about $100 plus tx ? I'll be doing light to med. fab. Thanks for your thoughts.RG
Reply:Assuming you are talking about the compact bender. I believe they are same bender. Compare number of dies and do both come with stands. I do own one from HF. If the Clarke has a great instruction manual then I would order it. HF's manual is awful. I have seen one $100 bender with an excellent 100 page manual with snapshot demos--can't recall the brand. A good manual will save lots of time in learning to use it.
Reply:Thanks Tap; I'll check it out.
Reply:FYI : I found the Clarke GE 2000 bender at Tractor Supply for $85.I opened the box and took a good look at it. 36 pg. man. with lots of illustrations. It was a good deal so it's here in Montague Co. Welds and general workmanship are pretty good for an import as such.
Reply:http://www.homier.com/browse.asp?Ses...&dpt=8&cat=231 Check out this site for a bender $49 at homier
Reply:I checked on shipping. This would have been a better value. $70 delivered to my door.I'll bet it's the same product painted in a different color.I just like to see what I'm gettin' if I can. I hope these China made benders hold up for a year or so till I can git a hoss'.I appreciate your input.I found a ring roller on ebay for 157 delivered. It's on its way.I'll look like a muscle man when I die!
Reply:at the cheapo places look close. Often they have one that is "heavy duty" A tad more expensive than the advertised. Get that one. Infact allways but one or two levels up in power/construction etc. from what you really need if your buying from elcheapodotcom or elcheapobrickstore. They typically sell stuff that is under powered/constructed for the job, so if you buy up a few levels you end up with what you really need. Shipping is real good at HF. Like real cheap.
Reply:thanks coach, I will beware.Gotta move some STUFF so I can put my new STUFF in the garage.RG
Reply:If you print out the homier ad for the bender and take it to hf, they should match the price and you would save the shipping.I bought the short one from hf for my bench top and later wanted to use the twister attachment so I needed the tall one and homier was having a sale near me so I picked up the tall one for $39, to good to pass up. They appear to be the same except for the color.
Reply:I have the Homier compact bender and have seen several other versions of the others, including the HF, and they are all the same except for color. I downloaded the HF manual and it has a few more pages than the Homier but they are essentially identical. My bender works well even though I abuse it occasionally. I made a set of 7/8" tube bending dies and bent .083 wall DOM tubing. It will probably do 1" but I thought that I was already pushing it. For normal flats, rounds etc, it works great but it takes some practice to do some fairly accurate repeatable bends. |
