My first welds with my dynastyCk17 aircooled torch 3/32 1.5 lanthanated25cfh argonNo pulse1/4" al plate3/32" 5356 filler ( i think)Top and 2nd weld 120hz3rd 200hz4th 200hz and a back and forth actionJust kinda playin around. Im entirely self taught and could use some critique. Thanks for looking
Reply:120 htz. is what I like. The first two welds looks great. 25cfh is more than I like to use, but again the welds look great. Filler looks like 4043 to me. Bend it and see if it creates a sharp corner. If so it is 4043. 5356 strengthens and creates a large radius.I kept all my default setting except pulled DCEP to 3/4 of DCEN. Been there for 2 years now. I set my CFH to 12 on a #6 cup. Have fun.Last edited by shovelon; 09-23-2012 at 01:14 AM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:And it could easily be 4043. I have both, but didnt think to check until I torched both ends off.Im sure having fun with this machine though. So many variables gets confusing. I think I should stick with the basics and practice butts, laps and fillets for a while under default settings like you say.
Reply:Those look great. Reduce your flow to 12-15 cfh. Looks like too much EP to me secondary to the large frosty cleaning band around the beads. What was your balance set at?I had a D200 and found that the advance functions were way too much for me. I will never achieve the skill needed to make those necessary. The 4 different AC waveforms were cool, but I never used anything but the SSQ. I also never welded at more than 150 Hz. I didn't find it to actually focus the arc that much better for me at that point. I actually prefer 60, but that prolly cause I learned on a Syncro. It definitely had better arc starts at low amps than my current machine, but I couldn't pass on the deal I got on my TA300.Oh, and seriously consider upgrading to a WC 20 series torch. They are so much more maneuverable than the 17.Last edited by Drf255; 09-23-2012 at 07:06 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I think the balance was at 70 or 75. I never had the option on my old econotig. The high hz thing is so strange to me. When i adjusted back to 60hz it sounded so familiar but cleaning action better. I will just have to play with the balance more to get dialed.I am really liking the lanthenated tungsten at 1.5%. Is 2% much different? Also is the WC 20 torch a weldcraft? My lws let me trade out the kit torch to the ck17 with superflex hose. That hose is crazy flexible and doesnt torque your torch around like the stocker.
