I picked up a Solar 165 MIG welder tonight that needs a new drive motor put into it for the wire feed. Does anyone here know where I can get a replacement part. I would even buy a bad one that is in good physical condition because all that is wrong is the guy before me broke off one of the threaded little tubes that holds a brush inside the motor for it to operate. It has 4 brushes for it so I figure it is either reversible or 2 speeds which is more likely. I attached a few photos of the motor. On the one side of it you can see where he broke off the threaded tube where the brush is inserted and a plastic threaded cap holds it into the armature. If I can even get a burnt out one I can use the body from it and brushes to fix this one. Reply:Yes I have the old parts I found inside it today and also the link is the one I have that was on Craigs List. That ad is this one we are discussing. Going to get a brush at a motor repair shop and epoxy the plastic threads back onto it then see what gives.. I know it runs fine by putting a wire into the brush hole for contact. Brushes are about 1/8 " square and the wire and spring on them are about 3/4 " long or so.
Reply:If you go to a Machine shop and give them one of the other tubes they could probably turn something for you. It shouldn't take long or be expensive. A piece of nylon rod with the appropiate tap... and you are good to go. I wouldn't try to glue anything to it. At bests you will only be able to use that motor for as long as the brush lasts... Then you will have a hell of a time taking all that glue appart to replace the brush.Mikel |
