Someone in the ft worth area may want to look at this .http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...952&id=&sasel=
Reply:Word to the wise, if it's important it better be a Wilton or better. Maybe for the occasional shade tree but not for pro work. Thanks though for the lookout.Millermatic 251Century 180 migSpectrum 625 Syncrowave 250DX
Reply:I thought the columbian vise was a wilton vise.http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...74&R=200096474Last edited by scholl24; 03-13-2006 at 08:13 PM.
Reply:maybe a Wilton distributed vise but definantly not the same quality. This is the minimum for heavy work http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/245473.htmOn the wilton website they don't even spec the psi of the steel for the Columbian were as the Tradesman is 60,000 psi.Millermatic 251Century 180 migSpectrum 625 Syncrowave 250DX
Reply:Cartercraft,If you notice, the vise on ebay and the vise on northern are not the same vises but used only as an example to show that the columbian bench vise is a wilton. I am not trying to say it is a professional grade tool,I'm not suggesting anyone buy the damm thing. If you are from ft worth you may want to look, that is all. The pros on this site ,who are a great help to the many of us who are learning, can determine for themselves whether a particuler product is useful to them. I do thank you for the imfo.
Reply:I apoligize if I sound like one of the "pros" here. I use a similar imported product at home and it has let me down several times, which leads me to constantly try to point others in my "right" direction. At around 25$ that would be a good deal, and for someone who is collecting tools to make a living the 25$ vise would be a good start.Millermatic 251Century 180 migSpectrum 625 Syncrowave 250DX
Reply:No apology necessary CarterKraft. My last post was a little rough arround the edges and uncalled for. I do thank you again for the original info on the vise. I look forward to reading more of you post.
Reply:I don't know where you've all had bad experiences with Columbian vises, but I own one and it is a very high quality piece and made in America. Mine is a somewhat older model and doesn't come with the anvil on the back, but still an excellent vise. A lot of Wilton's new products are imported so watch out. |
