I have a TA-185. I been messing around with the tig welder for about a year now, pretty much 90% aluminum. With the air cooled 17 torch it just gets a little too hot. I am looking to pick up a cooler with a smaller water torch that will do the same amperage for aluminum. Can someone recommend me a cooler with the TA-185 and water torch, and what do I actually need to convert to work for my machine. What would you recommend? I appreciate any info, thank you. I been looking at the dynaflux tiger (yes or no) and a 9 torch to weld no more than 1/8 aluminum.   Victor (broadhead0706)
Reply:definitely go with a model 20 torch.   much smaller than the 18. as you don't need the amperage of the larger torch.   if you want to build your own cooler I have a motor and pump assembly for $ 50 plus shippingTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:There no mod needed for the machine itself.  A 20 series torch is a water cooled version of the 9.  You will need a torch with lines, the adapter (of which the cleanest for your machine will be a water cooled dinse connector) and a cooler.  You can hook your torch up to tap water if your water is not that hard and use that until you have your cooler figured out.  The torch will mate to LH tig to NPT adapters.  You can get it all on eBay.  None of your 17 consumables will fit a 9/20 torch.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:thank u guys for the response, not sure which brand water cooler to go with ,dont think i need more then a 2 or 3 gallon cooler, my max amps are 185 maybe a little more if i play with the mix gas,but dont think i need more then 185 amps for most of my welding.
Reply:If you look at a esab 220 amp tig, you will see it's cooler holds almost .6 of a gallon If somebody made a gallon cooler, it would handle a TA 185. http://www.esabna.com/us/en/dbReplac...ge%20Email.pdfEsab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:My Dynasty 200DX came factory with a 1 gallon cooler.  The difference is whether or not you make/buy a cooler with a fan and radiator vs just a tank.   You will need a larger water volume if you have no way of cooling the water that comes from the torch. It's fairly easy to make one, and based on your shop setup and locale, you can just plumb it to tap water.  The old Miller TIGs used to come with a water solenoid for just that reason.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:http://www.ebay.com/itm/110960146340Here is the bigger cooler the magnum 20 he has it buy it now for $239.  I asked him and he said he had a bunch more he is selling. He said he was selling them one at a time to keep from eBay making him open an eBay store.
Reply:unless u are maxing out the 185A all the time then a 26 series air cooled will save you a water cooler.G
