this will sound like such a newby question but here it goes, i came across a cutting torch one of the containers is green and the other is a dispensable propane canister. what cutting abilities does this torch have, is it good bad?sorry for such a ridiculous question vince
Reply:Oxy-propane is popular for cutting, probably the second-most popular OFC process.BUT, the small torch kits will go through fuel quickly and the gas is very expensive for the small tanks.Cutting ability is determined by the tip size.  The bigger the tip, the more fuel it burns and the more oxygen it can use for cutting, AND THE FASTER YOU HAVE TO REFILL THE EXPENSIVE TANKS.
Reply:will this system work well enough for hobby use, can this be used for gas welding. and about how much is it to fill it upthanks againvince
Reply:OFC-P is not good for welding.  The heat of a propane flame is in the outer cone.  You need the high heat in the inner cone, like an acetylene or MAPP flame.  MAPP is also available in those little disposable cylinders, so maybe that set-up will work with those also.  You don't say where you are, so grab your yellow pages and call a welding supply store and ask what the refill is on the little oxygens.  Trust me, you REALLY don't want a small system unless YOU REALLY HAVE to have one that small.
Reply:VinceWhat are you planning to weld?As stated you really don't want to weld with propane.  It would be frustrating, not to mention the expense excess amount of oxygen needed over O/A to obtain the proper welding heat.  Also, the smaller the propane the more prone it is to freezing up.You can braze with propane, however.
