Radiator Repair

Hey Everyone, I have a question. A farmer friend of mine stopped by with a radiator out of a 8R series tractor John Deere today. It has a mark in it from what looks like something was pushed or dropped on it at one time? He bought the tractor used as is, knowing of small stuff like this. It is a aluminum radiator,with a small mark about the size of a dime that could possible be a leaker? What would ppl recommend as a filler? 4043? or  5356? or something else?Will post a pic as soon as I get one. Thanx Dale
Reply:on things like this I use oxy/acetylene and some of those brazing rods. causes a whole lot less headaches. If you do want to weld it, use 4043. 5356 can't take sustained high temps
Reply:Is the "mark" on the cooling fins or tube/s?  Talk to the radiator shop. Fins can be straightened with a small screwdriver. If it's only one or two tubes you could pinch them off without hurting anything. Those tubes are really, really thin even when new. Welding them? Nope. Even when being soldered/braised they are usually partially immersed in the tank for a heat sink.
