I made a few thousand cuts to resize some "grates" made of  welded wire.I started with oxy-fuel and then switched to plasma.Pictured are plasma cutsThe pictured cut quality is not a reflection of plasma's ultimate capability, because fast sever quality cuts is all the job required. The wire cutting was hands-down faster with plasma; especially since a wire on the drop-side pieces  happened to be located in the exact correct place to be utilized as a cut guide to drag the plasma nozzle against. The  "U" cuts were  a pain with plasma because of plasma's lack of "reach" and so required at least three torch moves  per cut and a "stall" waiting for "long-reach melt" near the wire, where access is limited. Whereas oxy-fuel would slice the U with basically one quick "roll" of the torch head. If there are many more to do I'll probably tag-team with oxy-fuel on the "U" cuts and plasma on the wire cuts. The frequent starts were tough on consumables, but the good news is that all the high-strangeness  from the intense activity of HF starts  finally ejected that Elvis 8-track that's been stuck in the shop's tape player for years. Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 10-18-2012 at 12:50 AM.
Reply:One question, do the matches from the match book holding the 8 track in place still light?Leo
