I find myself looking a couple of flexible, mountable, LED (preferably) work lights or bench lights.  I need one for a chop saw stand, another pair for a workbench, and so on.  I've seen some at Grainger for $75+ but that seems excessive for what your buying.  - S
Reply:I use something like this:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Alvin-Swing-Arm-Lamp/17367587$22 at wally world.  Lots of office supply stores, amazon, target, etc. carry inexpensive lamps like this.  I screw in a LED bulb or even a CFL floodlight bulb (low wattage, low heat).
Reply:Everythings excessive at Grainger
Reply:We use T5's, brightest one i've seen.http://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-Grow-Ligh...efaultDomain_0
Reply:Ii would not use LED.  It is very bright, durable, and cheap to run, but it does not cast a useful light in my opinion.
Reply:Since I installed a hitch reciever under the corner of my welding table and stick my bench grinder in it, I've found the gooseneck lamp that's attached to the grinder w/ the good old, but not PC incandescent bulb, in it I can twist it around to work on things on the table. Such as the carb off my wheeler when I had to put a carb kit in it last week. Oh, I also spread an old white bath towel on the table to catch those pesky lil' tiny carb parts that seem to get dropped!!                                              MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:These came from Grainger and have different mounting options. I tried several different cfb and settled on bright white, which was not too glaring, but made it easy to see the details. The goosenecks are stout and stay where you place them and the aluminum with a non-solid back acts as a heat sink and the heat can flow out and not be trapped (mainly if you you a bulb that generates more heat). Good luck on your search! Reply:I am hanging lights in my new garage, if you have enough room, I am impressed with the 65 watt cfl.  It is a 300 watt equiv. I have 5 out of the planned 10 up in a 30 x 40 shop, hanging at about 17 feet high, and I am impressed with how bright they are.  They are physically quite large, when compared to an old school 300 and take a min to warm up to full light, but dollar for dollar it seemed like the cheapest way to get quick lighting up.  They are about $18 at Lowes.Bruce DeLaetHeavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder1948 SA-200 short hood1949 LincWelder 1801963 SA-200 red faceMiller S-32-P
Reply:As I mentioned earlier, I use the CFL floodlights...they do the job just fine.  Only problem is that you need to turn them on a few minutes before you work, particularly in COLD weather.  They don't warm up very fast.  LED' are instant on...full brightness.  Just more expensive, though.
Reply:Just use a LED head lamp and compare it to a regular light.  I don't know why, but they just don't show what you need to see, even though they are very bright. I think a regular light blasts the whole spectrum of light, while a LED filters out some colors.  I keep DeWalt 18V lights around the shop since I use the batteries anyway on tools.
Reply:I have 7 of the 100w eqvt cfl's on my garage ceiling plus a 2 tube 4' flourescent over the work bench.                                               MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:Thanks guys.  I'm definitely looking for a flexible light that I can mount on my bench grinder, chop saw stand, work bench, etc..  I have some decent overheads but need a more local solution on the tools.
