Hi...I'm new here and new to welding. I have a Hobart Handler 140 to do MIG welding. First project is a subframe/gear rack for a motorcycle, using mild steel tubing. If I don't mess that up too badly, I'll move forward with other things. My used welder came with a Uniweld regulator, marked "Nitrogen Series -- Inert Gas Regulator." It has the proper fitting for a Argon/CO2 mix bottle, and from what I have learned on the interwebs, is the right regulator for inert gas.Problem is...the output side gauge is broken. I can replace it with a PSI gauge, but I figured why not use the CFH gauge instead. I know how these "flow gauges" work (they estimate flow via pressure differential). But, it's accurate enough for what I'm doing.So...my question is: Can I just install this replacement flow gauge onto my nice regulator and move on? Or, do I need some special "flow gauge compatible" regulator. Many thanks!
Reply:The new gauge has been calibrated for CFH so install it. Use thread sealer or nothing DO NOT USE TEFLON TAPE. Back adjuster out, install on tank open slowly adjust to 25 cfh and check for leaks.www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Reply:My first opinion is do not use the uniweld gauge, the uniweld appears to be a hi pressure regulator hence the 4000psi inlet, and the 200 psi outlet. The guage you are adding is a flowmeter guage and is not used for hign pressure.Buy a new reg that is used for cfh not psi.

Reply:Cost is not as im[portant as function, just make sure it is a flowmeter style and has a 580 female nut for your 75/25, remember CO2 takes a different nut I thing a 320.
Reply:I ordered the flow meter Regulator. Should work out great. Thanks for the tips.Last edited by NoobWeld; 10-23-2012 at 08:30 PM. |
