Reply:Roughly 300-380 amps. Electrode almost parallel to the plate…about 80-85 degrees.Last edited by Dystopia; 10-25-2012 at 02:46 AM.
Reply:According to Stoody for their 31, 170-240A.  From personal experience close to perpendicular to the weld surface or a slight drag angle to keep the slag behind you. You want your amperage low enough so that you don't dilute the deposited material with the base material yet hot enough so that you get good fusion. I've used a couple of different brands of hardface rod and I've found Stoody one of the better running ones, personal preference....Mike
Reply:Like mrmikey, I run those rods at 200 amps (DC, RP). Makes them run very smoothly but not over-mix with the base metal. The slag will creep if a slight drag angle is not held or if the travel is too slow when trying to build up the deposit. Better to put on a second layer. Besides, a second layer has very little base metal in it so it is harder. Never tried them with straight polarity but others may want to give their advice on that.Machine settings may vary. I found that with less than 180 amps it was a bit difficult to keep the arc consistent without occasionally long-arching it. That leads to other problems.Last edited by GWD; 10-25-2012 at 08:39 AM.
