Howdy y'all. I'm pretty new to the owning my own business thing, so I know that I have plenty to learn. I'm hoping by asking those with more experience than my partner and I have, that wwe may be successful.My first question for y'all is:I know that years back when I worked in a private machine shop, the owner acquired a good number of jobs from Dutch Royal (the mother company to Shell) through an outsourcing, to small American businesses, method. Is there such a method, perhaps through a web source of some sort (kind of like freelancer.com) for welding jobs. Even if its simply making brackets in house and shipping them to the buyer, anything like that would be great. Something like a place where we could log on, then pick and deliver on jobs? Something along the lines of how owner-operator transporters pick loads? Any ideas would be very much appreciated.As I've said we are new to the "owning our own shop" gig and seeing as how we live in a rural area we are hoping to find ways to keep the income rolling in.Thank you, Jamie P
Reply:Hi, Jamie-I've never heard of a web-based clearinghouse of welding jobs that you describe, although I'd never heard of Freelancer either. (Interesting site, btw.)As for your situation, a lot depends on what's happening in Alpine. Is it industrial, agricultural, oil field? Will the work to come to you, or do you need to be mobile?You might also get on your state / county list of approved vendors and pick up some work that way.Good luck with it!
