i'm going to be tapping 4 holes into an ali block. the bolts will be taken in and out on a regular basis. the fella at the machine shop says i need to heli-coil them with ss to keep from tearing the threads out. this is just going to be used as part of a dust collection system. no stress or vibration. what ya think, pay the $10 per hole or just ride with it."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it

Reply:heli-coil it before you regret it..ORyou could use studs and nuts (if there's room for removal) like in a race motor with a aluminum block for the heads for example... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:If you use anti-seize, you won't have to heli-coil it. If you do not torque down the bolts to 1 million lbs, you will be OK. I have made many plates out of aluminum for plastic resin dryers, stamping machine, job specifin tapping machines and have never ever had to heli-coil any thread. Some of those fixtures are still in use today, some 13 years later. If you have to be 100% sure, heli-coil them or use studs as suggested, but  I don't see any concern for it."Wherever you go....there you are"
