Neither photo is mine. The 1st is from eBay and the other is from Pinterest something or other. In the 1st photo there is trim around the base of the terrarium and at the top. What is that decorative metal trim called please? And where would one buy a material such as that?----In this photo there is a little 3D bird at the top of the terrarium. I've found finials for sale and 2D chickens, butterflies, and oak leaves but no 3D steel birds. Where might something like that be ordered. I want it for a birds nest. ----I'm beginning to think the 3D steel figurines are simply something you see attached to something else at a rummage/garage sale and if they're cheap enough.... you buy them.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:Not sure what it's called, but I know I've seen similar stamped steel sheets maybe 20ga at lowes and Home Depot, you could possibly cut strips and use them like you want. Or possibly a good crafts store.Real welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!
Reply:Try King Archetectural metals.
Reply:In ornamental iron terms, the bottom ones could just be stampings welded together. The upper part could be a double sided valence - or just sidewalk edging, some companies call it steel landscape edging. The big spikes at the two ends look like fence top spears to me.There are several ornamental iron companies that have great stuff to browse through. Reply:Dantheharleyman99> I know different HDs and Lowes carry different inventories. I checked those and Menards and no go but.... you mentioned a good crafts store so I stopped in at Hobby Lobby and found an iron 3D bird for only $6.99 that I used a 40% off coupon on. I can cut off the hook attached to it and weld it back onto my neighbors decorative birdbath. Never thought of picking up anything but decorator and artsy type supplies from Hobby Lobby but sure enough
. they had a bird I could use. Id still like to find a source for 3D cast iron figurines of things like frogs and rabbits though. Ive looked and keep coming up empty handed other than garden art thats already been welded into home or yard decorations. --Bob> King Architectural Metals didn't have any of the trim I was looking for. They had an excellent selection of finials. They've got a nice catalog. I got hung up looking at everything they were selling. I particularly liked some of their oak leaf and acorn cast iron brackets. --Minnesota Dave> I have a terrarium on legs similar to the one in the photo above. That upper part between the two finials/fence top spears tangled with a soccer ball about 5 years ago and lost. I thought Id saved the piece but guess not. Ive been looking to buy a strip of whatever that is to repair the terrarium ever since. --I dont know why Im striking out at ornamental iron companies Im finding online but I am. Lots of fencing supplies and brackets but nothing in miniature like what I need to repair my terrarium. The piece that was tack welded to the little fleur de lis fence top spears was about 16 in length by about an inch high. I tried specialty online dollhouse suppliers looking for it and didnt have any luck either. --Yes!!! Ive been having oodles of fun. Im almost done with my welding cart.
. onto making some gadgets and a welding table next!!! Ive gone to flea markets and even some garage sales looking for metal goodies to play with. I stopped in at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore store and picked up an iron drawer pull for .25¢ that I have no clue what Im going to do with and a decent length of pipe to make more Os from for more shepherds hooks for only a coupla bucks. Feel sorry for all my friends and relatives this coming holiday season
. everyone is getting something thats been welded. And probably next year and the year after too because Im really getting the biggest kick out of learning how to weld. --docwelder> BINGO. I did an image search and similar items are definitely showing up under loafers rail!!!! Thank you. Now if I could only find some of it in a size I could use to repair my terrarium Id be in great shape.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. . I finally found the petite ornamental metal strip I was looking for, it's crown filigree, http://frankmorrow.com/shop/crown-filigree/. If anyone is interested, the bottom ornamental trim on that 1st terrarium is classical palmette, http://frankmorrow.com/shop/classical-palmette-2/ --It appears metal color options are available to match my terrarium/wardian case that one of my kids trashed, http://frankmorrow.com/portfolio/color-swatch-samples/. Only issue is there is a minimum order for this company of $150. --A few ornamental metal trims of interest from Frank Morrow:http://frankmorrow.com/shop/oak-leaves-acorns-banding/ http://frankmorrow.com/shop/acanthus-leaf-scroll-6/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/acanthus-leaf-4/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/decorative-link/ on ridge of terrariumhttp://frankmorrow.com/shop/7-58-long-continuous-leaf/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/leaf-scroll-table-edge/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/acanthus-leaf-scroll-9/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/pierced-...rops-filigree/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/tulip-4/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/morning-glory-flower/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/acanthus-leaf-8/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/braid/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/braid-filigree/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/leaf-berries/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/spanish-...-wrope-border/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/curled-acanthus-2/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/classica...beaded-border/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/double-s-dots/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/mission-style-table-edge/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/budding-branch-2/http://frankmorrow.com/shop/acanthus-leaf-wpin-holes/ Interestinghttp://frankmorrow.com/shop/drape-gallery/ http://frankmorrow.com/shop/continuous-leaf-cluster-2/ http://frankmorrow.com/shop/continuous-acanthus-leaf-2/ http://frankmorrow.com/shop/plain-continuous-branch/ --About little metal birds
. little luck in that department. I found one at Hobby Lobby which will work, http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/...e-hook-732818/. Its not ideal and is more ornate than what I would looking for. Its also expensive unless you use a 40% off coupon which you can only use one of per visit. I did buy it and my girlfriend cut the hook off of it with a grinder
. Uh huh
. the poor guy teaching me has a new student
. another female. Anywhooo, Im still looking for a bird similar to this, http://www.reusablerevolution.com/ho...candle-lantern, http://www.amazon.com/Rustic-Decorat.../dp/B005F4N4NG, http://www.thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/...xtemj_jfVg.jpg or this http://www.lowes.com/pd_315327-32435...ductId=3277161--Hope this information helps someone else.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:I may have solved my bird problem. Here's a photo of the Hobby Lobby bird hook.... without the hook.... next to a stylized hook bird that could be created in different sizes and multiples. Not quite what I had in mind but.... quick and cheap.----walker> Thank you. A minimum order of 10 linear feet would be much better than a minimum order of $150. I've not been able to locate the crown filigree at their site though. A tad bit early to call customer service.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act.
