This is my first attempt at making something and posting it on WW. I'm on here every day and just lurk on the site. Tell me what you guys think. It's still not finished but for now, it's sitting in my garage until I save some more money for materials and find some time off of work and school. Attached Images
Reply:It still needs to be painted and still needs cable holders and a handle!! Attached Images
Reply:looks good, going to paint it when your set?Miller ab/p 330Hobart champ 16Miller 140Lincoln Power Mig 255Lincoln SA-250
Reply:Yep, your getting there with it. In addition to the cable holders and handles, I would suggest a more adequate means of securing your gas bottle instead of that rubber bungee strap. Those things can stratch and give and break when you least expect it. You could also add a place to hang some rod holders and your grinders on there too.
Reply:Looks good! If you replace those wood shelves with expanded metal of some sorts, any debris will fall through to the floor, less for you to clean. And if you use a piece of chain for that cylinder, you have an excuse to use your welder to tack all those parts into place!  When a welder tells you to "stick it", what do they really mean?"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
Reply:Yo, for your first ever welding project you did good bud! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Please excuse my poor forum etiquette in advance. Thanks guys for all of the support! Yes, I will paint it later and expanded metal seems like a good idea for the future.  thanks again!Woo!
Reply:I like the beefy wheels you put on.  I don't have a paved driveway (gravel) so that would be a great idea here!Sent from my mobile device while pooping
Reply:That's a cool set up! I kinda want the same thing. HH up top and stickmate on the bottom! Very cool
Reply:Very nice job.I agree, the plywood looks odd on it. How did you mount the rear wheels?  Pics?TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:great first try
Reply:Nice. Now to just finish it with a few details like mentioned from the other guys, and you have a GREAT cart. My biggest problem..........finish projects.
Reply:I kinda like the plywood and its a lot cheaper than metal
Reply:good looking first cart. Ive got mine set up kinda the same with the mig on top and the arc on bottom.JobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right.
Reply:That looks great.  Alot better then mine.  I am going to add two questions though. In the second pic if you look closely seems to me you need a bit more heat and you need to center the weld between the two pieces.  Looking at the second pic the left hand side has a "crack" (it's not a crack just did not penetrate)  Seems like all of your weld penetrated the top piece.  (atleast at that point)Don't get me wrong I am no proffessional here either.  The second thing, the pnuematic tires can be problematic.  Being at the rear of the cart however unless you are welding on top of it I don't think you will have a problem.  But you do run the risk of putting a hole in the tires from slag.  Keeping the cart even a short distance from your work will keep this from happening. All in all it is a great cart, a few more add on's and your good to go.Takes time and practice."edit"Not sure about at your house, but you may want to think about capping off the open ends of the tubing.  Good place for wasps to make a nest.
Reply:Don't worry about the plywood - that's what is on my small mig cartWhen I need more space, I even weld using sawhorses and plywood.Would like to see you use chain on the tank - tanks are a serious hazard when they fall.Nice job and I like the wheels too.Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Thanks for all of the responses. The rear wheels are mounted using a 5/8" bolt through a 1/4" plate and the plate is welded onto the bottom of the frame. I ran two passes of 7018 on either side because I was afraid of having it collapse on itself. Surprisingly, it has held up fine but I think I'm going to add a rod across the bottoms of the plates. I will secure the tank up on the cart but for now it has just been a table to set my welders on that just happens to have wheels on the bottom. It's funny how I'm here typing my life away on Welding Web but I can't get past page 1 of a paper due tomorrow. Woo!
