I'm looking for a MIG.   I was thinking about rolling to HomeDepot and getting a Weld-Pak 175HD but its $590 ish around here.  I'm looking for something I can use to weld on car frames with etc.   If I was willing to spend $500-$1000 what do you all recommend?   Do they make a good unit that does Mig,Tig + Arc?  I'm guessing one of those is out of my budget. Thanks!
Reply:For your price range and welding car frames I would suggest the Hobart IronMan 210 for $1280.00. or Miller 210 for $1335.00 Both @ www.cyberweld.com . there are smaller cheaper machines like the Miller 175 and HH180 but for something critical like Frames on a Car I would suggest more amps. I know there a couple of hundred over your budget but in my opinion I think it would be worth the extra cash. I also would stay with 220 Volt machines for this application.just my 2 CentsDrivesector Hobart Handler 140Hobart Handler 180Ready Welder 2Hobart Air Force 400Airco Stinger 225Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."OZZY"
Reply:depends if your a hobbiest  or want to do it for money?but a good mig will do all your needs with in its limits
Reply:Multiprocess is probably not what you really need for car stuff.   Mig is probably the best route at this point.  I am not sure I would say you must have 200+ amps of power to weld up car frames, but you would definately would not lack the power for other larger projects should they come your way.  I think the 175-180 amp machines would do just fine, but 210 welders typically are a bit more robust in their construction, and come with more features...but are substantially less portable for jobs that require it.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Check out the brand new Lincoln 180C and the Hobart HH187, easily the best machines finally made in this class.  Comfortably in your price range with money left over for other needed goodies.  A 210A machine is always nice, but you can easily deal with the duty cycle of the 180A machine and it will get the job done for sure.  Spend the savings and get the gas cylinder and a few grinders.
Reply:TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) has Cyberweld's price beat on the Hobart Ironman 210.  The Ironman 210 is $1,034.63 at TSC.EdWhen the  drops the  stops!Check out my website at:  Tombstone 180 ACHandler 120Millermatic 210Powermax 380Harris & Victor torchesSawzallChop Saw
