Looking at welders for building stainless steel exhausts and will try a bit with some titanium. Looking at the Miller Maxstar STH. No plans for aluminum. I already have a Hobart 140 mig. Any input for the Tweco fabricator 141i? ill be welding 16g tubing so 110v should be plenty. Thanks for any input.
Reply:For stainless you should be just fine with the Hobart 140. I have a Lincoln 140 and it works well. For 16 & 18 gauge you'll be on tap 4 of 5 so you won't have much of a duty cycle. Are you planning to use 100% argon and back purge? No idea on the titanium, too rich for my blood...GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:The maxstar STL is a great little rig. And it is no slouch on thicker stuff. That machine will do great for your plans.
Reply:I've owned a Maxstar 150 STH for at least 10 years. It is a very good TIG unit. The level of control that you have over the weld puddle is excellent.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:I also have a Miller Maxstar 150STH that I use daily and I am very impressed perfect for the work your planning. The pulse settings are balanced 50/50 I wish I could tweak that at times but this thing is so portable and small and works perfect when I'm in a ceiling running sanitary pipe...if your on a 30amp circuit you can crank up the amperage and youll be surprised what that little welder will do on 110/115. Otherwise you would new to step up to a Maxstar 200DX for more features and power.

I was looking at other machines and seen the adjustable features for the pulse top amp/bottom amp/ percent and liked the adjustability of that. the cost of the 200dx is almost double that of the 150STH. Want to keep it around $2k |
