So on my hunt for a mig i'v came across people saying the hobarts are millers and centery are lincons. Can someone clear this up for me? Centery and hobarts are ALOT cheaper then the name brands.
Reply:Some models are the same outside of the color of the sheet metal. Others, about the same aside from tapped vs infinite variable output. Other models, not at all similar. Best course would be to find machines in your power range needs, optional equipment list and preference before trying them out to see which give you the best service for your dollar. That being said, Lincoln owns Century. I'm unfamiliar enough with the Century line-up to give any recommendations. Hobart and Miller are owned by the same conglomerate/consortium and while there are two, or more, assembly plants, some models are made on the same assembly line. There is no cut and dried across the board system on which models are made by which manufacturer. You'll need to do a more in-depth assessment of the products that fill your needs before writing a check. Thankfully, that is probably the smartest thing to do even if these companies weren't inter-related.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:I have been to Appleton Wisconsin(the home of Miller Electric)and never once saw a Hobart machine on any assembly line.Lincoln?....just lawyers and whores walking hand in hand in my opinion.
Reply:it actually says "bobcat" on the inside of my hobart engine drive.  i would say that here are some similarities.
Reply:Miller and Hobart Equipment are owned buy the ITW, which is just a holding company.  Lincoln owns Century it seems to me that Miller is involved in the Engine drives and ITW/Hobart still make the electrics.  Hobart Filler Metals is still independant I think.

Reply:Hobart Brothers, McKay, Tri-Mark, Weldcraft, Tempil, all parts of ITW along with several others.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Miller and Hobart both produce equipment.....Miller in Appleton,Hobart in Troy Ohio.
Reply:When I bought my welding cart, the online store said it was a Miller cart. When I got it the box said in big letters Miller/Hobart. Sounds the same to me. kidtigger24  They think I’m crazy, but I know better. It is not I who am crazy. It is I who am MAD!
