I bought a used Hobart 140 home-duty MIG machine. I'm having a problem with wire feed...it gets sticky unless the hose is stretched absolutely straight. I took off the hose, clipped the wire, and I can barely push the wire through by hand...I cleaned the wheels that push the wire. I backed off the tension on the spool of wire until it just barely stops unspooling. But, basically, the wire is just really hard to push through. Do I need a new liner? Should I use smaller wire (I have 030 in it now)?Any help is greatly appreciated.
Reply:I'd say a new liner is probably in order.-PatSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:What contact tip ya got on there? Is it difficult to feed through without the contact tip on?
Reply:Take the tip off next to see if you can feel some significant difference. If not then go ahead and take that gas diffuser off. That's where the liner needs to nest correctly. If it still feeds hard or harsh after all that then you could assume it's a liner problem."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:OK -- I pulled the liner out and checked it by itself with a length of wire. If it's straight...the wire moves smooth. If it's curved...the wire sticks and grinds. Will buy a new liner tomorrow...
Reply:You"ll find, or at least I did, if you put a wiper http://tinyurl.com/bev5376 before the wire enters the liner it'll make a difference as to the longetivity of the liner. It wipes off all the crap and crud before it's pulled thru...Mike

Reply:I'll fit a wiper with the new liner. Thanks for the tips!
Reply:If you do use a wiper buy the one without the lube, lube will just plug your liner faster. |
