This thread http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=258801 made me think of a job I got called to look at last week, I kindly refused because he would not unload the trailer or listen to me.I got a call for one almost as fun, only it was not the frame(steel frame aluminum deck), but the beams carrying the deck. Long story short the owner called me, truck is in a rest ares, cant be unloaded and needed to be done yesterday.Let the pix talk.Half the load a good 20,000 pound JCB fork liftThe Damage he thought I would magically fix on the side of the road with the Lull and a 500 HP motor on the deck They had been repaired beforeIf I could have had the trailer for a day and replaced the bad beams I would have been all over the job. But no the guy wanted to jack the beams straight with the load on the trailer and have me booger it back together so it looked good for the DOT cops. No thanks, bye byeDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Conversation goes like this.He says, "Well, I suppose you work out of your garage & can't get my truck in the drive...."Me, "Nope, got a full shop, bring it by...""Well, I suppose you only work on nights and weekends doing this on the side....""Nope, do it full time, bring it over this morning....""Oh..... Well it only need a few things tacked back up, think ill do it myself...""Yeah, sure. You do that....."Frigging moron.
Reply:I get it all the time, "I will bring it to you""No I am mobile, I come to you""If I bring it to you will it be cheaper""I am mobile, coming to you is in my hourly rate""But it is only a 5 min job"And so on and so forth......Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Why did he put a skytrac on an aluminum trailer in the first place? Those aren't rated for heavy equipment

Reply:Hey 7A749 where is your shop located? I work in Lansing myself.
Reply:I sure do, you must be the Steve that I remember from LCC? I was wondering if that was who you were.
Reply:That trailer was rode hard and put away wet! In other words, its days of full duty are over."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I'd prolly been in trouble advising...1. Go to the lumber yard & get some cribbing...2. Move the load mid-ships...3. Crib the sumb!tch at the center of each axle...4. Drive somewhere & get it fixed...5. Don't do that again...I'm not sure a brand new aluminum bed trailer could handle that rig job right over the tandems Tozzi.Matt

Reply:People are ignorant when it comes to service and cost. If they insist it will only take 20 mins make them watch so they can see all the work involved.....or tell them to have at it.
