What do they do to the cylinder during hydrostatic testing?  I don't mean the actual testing, but rather, what other maintanance do they do to the cylinder?  I would guess the valve is always replaced (or not).   Perhaps a new neck ring?  How about sand blasting inside and out and a fresh coat of paint?  Thanks!!
Reply:All of those things are options and each one increases the price.  The only reason that I know of to sand blast the inside is to remove corrosion. The valve isn't always replaced, only if it is defective or you just want a new one.Picked these up Friday from my tester.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Usually they just pull the valve, test and replace. As mentioned other things are available if you want. With O2 cylinders they may O2 clean the inside of the cylinder depending on the test facility. Any contaminants that get inside the cylinder greatly increase the chances of ignition when under HP and 100% O2. That's not a risk many places are willing to take, especially since many hydro locations also do fills. Once they pull the valve and fill it, There's always a good chance that they could have introduced oils or other contaminants to the inside when testing, so cleaning is usually a good idea..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
