I got awsked to make this by my boss for his church, their cross at the church only had 3 whimpy carpenter nails in the cross.  So here is my steel version of the crown of thornes which will hang on the cross.  Its made out of 3/8 rod forged by me then bent heated and twisted into each other piece.  About a total of 5 different rods twisted and tied together.  Spikes were fused on with tig torch and no filler, and nails hand forged by me.hope you guys like it!
Reply:Nice. What are the nails 1/2" stock?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:yeah the nails are half inch cold rolled stock, instead of upsetting the heads I used a piece of 3/4 inch cold rolled stofck and forged the rose style head and cut it off with a bandsaw and then fused it to the half inch stock with tig.  Cut like a hour or so off production time on the nails which is always a nice thing.
Reply:I'll have to save that and show it to a friend of mine for next year...No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:It was definatly a interesting project, they asked if I thought I could make a crown and I was like yeah Ill give it a shot.  It did take some trial and error but it does fit on my head, tieing the steel together was fun to do but harder than it looks.
Reply:Excellent I am very impressed.   richey
Reply:I'd love to see a picture of it on the cross.  I am sure you thought a lot about it as you made the crown.I attached a picture of two of my students work, only because the cross is such a big deal to the world.  I don't want to try to hijack your thread. Attached Images

Reply:thank you all very much.  The church hung it up on the cross yesterday and everyone loved it.  I made a tab to crown so it could be screwed to the cross so I took a wood screw and forged another spike and tig welded it onto the screw so it hides the screw and looks like its free hanging.
Reply:Wonderful job!
Reply:Looks great, alot of work went into that!
Reply:Great work Travis. I think you had a little help there. The crown speaks volumes.
