Reply:Please keep us updated. I'm really interested to see how it turns out. Here's what seems to be a fairly good article on welding of 310/310Shttp://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=4392Last edited by HCF; 04-13-2013 at 01:02 AM.Reason: Found link
Reply:Well, then when you get it fixed, you dang well better make a sand casting, then make a mold, find yourself a foundry or figure out how to make one yourself. Reply:Cripey, I hope they are paying you properly for that kind of repair. That looks...technical...to say the least. Are you 'guaranteeing' your work?Trying to imagine what kind of Aluminum foundry there is in CDA! Hah!Last edited by rideit; 04-13-2013 at 01:55 AM.Motorboating...in the Cleavage of the Tetons

Reply:if you do not want to click the link here is the weldability Welding of Grade 310/310S Stainless SteelWelding Grades 310/310S are welded with matching electrodes and filler metals. The alloys are readily welded by SMAW (manual), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG) and SAW. Electrodes to AWS A5.4 E310-XX and A 5.22 E310T-X, and filler metal AWS A5.9 ER310 are used. Argon is shielding gas. Preheat and post heat are not required, but for corrosion service in liquids full post weld solution annealing treatment is essential. Pickling and passivation of the surface to remove high temperature oxides are essential to restore full aqueous corrosion resistance after welding. This treatment is not required for high temperature service, but welding slag should be thoroughly removed. So in short 310 filler or electrodeLooks like a fun repairMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:I will be using a 310 filler wire. But the owner gave me 2 boxes is .045 hardwire and i was told to weld with a trimix? In your opinion is this right? I have welded on it some and its really not getting the penetration i would of expected. Ill have pics of the welds on Monday. I was hoping they made a 310 dualshield wire But i haven't researched for it either.
Reply:That looks like an incredible amount of work! I am also in for more pics! How big are the squares? I'd imagine it will be hard to get weld all the way down each hole.
Reply:Wow, good luck. that would be an sob to fix.
Reply:In my (limited) experience 310 has a kind of "sluggish" puddle, more like Inconel than stainless. Don't expect a smooth wet-out and nice bead like you get with 304.Either tri-mix or Argon with 2 - 3% CO2 are good, pretty much a matter of preference. I've never heard of a cored wire for 310.Hope it works out, keep us informed.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
