Reply:Hey Ram, too cool man. You do great work and nothing wrong with the Bonsai either. Bert, I have an Optrel helmet just like that. Swiss made and excellent.
Reply:Here's a pic from 07 when I still used the Optrel. In the top right corner you can just see part of the Carbon hood I made. I used to think I was getting too much light from the top back then. Attached Images

Reply:Mario,I know it is hot where you live, but you should really wear a long-sleeved shirt and cover any bare skin. Ultraviolet light exposure from the arc is not a good thing.  A mask for spray painting is also recommended."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:I'm usually the one behind the camera, so I really don't have many picts of me working. If someone else is taking picts for me, they usually are documenting the work, not me doing the work. The only good picts I have are one of me taking my forge class last summer, and some dive picts of me a few years back. Reply:I have posted this picture before, but I don't mind doing it again. This is me on the left, PapaLion in the middle (miss ya Bret) and John on the right. Come to think of it, what is John's user name here? I can't even think of it. Someone can help me out. This was at one of our breakfast meetings here in Yuma. Where were YOU MarkBall2????This is me at my day job. Those gray power cables are a real joy to install. I was lacing them down to the ladder rack in this picture. Long, tedious, boring job, hence the earphones in my listeners. You can all thank me for keeping the internet up and running and constantly upgrading. lol, I install that equipment and maintain it. This is me at my other gig. I am a minister and I minister to inmates at the county detention center. And this is me serving at church. I run the sound board for the choir musicians, singers and equipment during praise and worship, then just the microphones during service. I am by no means ready for a rock concert. I don't have an ear for it. Reply:Originally Posted by bert the welderIt's funny you mention that....... , it just died yesterday. Fantastic helmet. Had it 12+ years. Can't complain. Would have bought another Optrel but I don't like the new design, especially the front lens cover. Way to expensive to replace. If you still have yours, do like I did. Go to the local plastics shop and get some thin acrylic sheet and cut out yer own in/outside lenses. WAY cheaper! Replaced it with a Miller Performance digital. Hope it's as good as my Optrel.
Reply:Originally Posted by tauruckMine died last year after about 10 years. My supplier gave me a cheap replacement cartridge that I made work but I never liked it so I use it for guests. Those dudes that turn up unanounced and want to spend all day wasting your time. I use a Lincoln Viking 1840 now. I was so upset about the Optrel dying originally. This guy's wife works at an animal hospital and she xrayed his Optrel to find the battery's location. They told me where it is and I carefully fished the old one out, bought a new one, put it back in but when I tried to bond a piece of plastic over the installation I was dumb not to put protection over the solar panel and the clamp really killed the MOD!
Reply:I don't think I have ever been photographed working, usually only get photos of my ugly face when travelling and somewhere signigicant, the first pic is after a 6 hour hike to Australias highest point on Mount Kosciousko, the second was another long hike to the peak and last 2 I drove to the peak, much easier!Cheers Andrew
