I will not have comfortable access to 220 for some time, nor have I owned a 220 unit.  What is the most powerful (useful, thick metal, duty cycle??) 110 unit you can find? Mig, flux, tig, stick?
Reply:So this is a 115 volt spot welder:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=45689 It was not able to spot weld two pieces of 18 gage aluminum (don't know if you can just do that as I'm a newbie) but seems to do very well with steel up to 1/8" total thickness.  You can find it on sale for $160 and if you buy instore with a %15 off coupon it comes out at about $150.
Reply:HTP 140 amp 110v mig. Needs a 30 amp circuit. Weights 135lbs. $750Craftsman 230a Buzz-box,  Lincoln 140T & 180T, Century K2789, PUROX W202 O/A14" cheapo chop saw that cuts straight and square!A toolbox of the cheapest Chinese tools money can buy"Real" tools all old reliable Husky/Craftsman/Proto stuff
Reply:Miller Maxstar 150(s)(stl/h)not cheap, powerful, 120v, under 20A draw
Reply:Saw a Miller Dynasty 200DX do 150 or 160 amps on 110v.
Reply:The 30A input on the HTP probably also make it in the same situation as the 240V machines for someone that can't do the necessary electrical work.I, too, vote for the inverter-based Miller Maxstar 150.  Stick welding is king for thickness with less power and an inverter makes it possible on 120V.But, for wire feeders, the answer gets even better than the HTP.  Go to a Millermatic Passport.  It's also an inverter and more efficient, and can do 1/4" on 120V power when needed. Both machines are top-of-the-line and will also run on 240V when you finally get it available. Then, they'll work even better!

Reply:Sorry guys, but Lincoln's Invertec V160S-T model one ups Miller's Maxstar 150.  It also Tigs and Sticks on 120 or 220 volts but has a higher amp output.  I guess it comes down to if you prefer seeing red or blue.  Myself, I have had better luck with the red brand after having owned both shades of color in my life span.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:Right, if 110 is all youve got, and you dont need mig welding, an invertor at 160 amps is the stuff.  Id get a passport If I wanted to mig just cause Id want portability at that amp range.   Sorry guys, but Lincoln's Invertec V160S-T model one ups Miller's Maxstar 150. Reply:There is the HTP Invertig 160DC that will go 110 or 220.  Not familiar with using it so cant offer an opinion except it will not do aluminum with tig.  Higher up in price is the Invertig 201 AC/DC which will tig aluminum but is strictly 230 volts.  I have the HTP MTS 160 which is strictly 220volts, is only DC so it wont tig aluminum.  It is almost an all in one package in that it is a combination stick, tig, and mig unit.  So far very pleased with the unit and personal service from HTP.  It sells for about $1200.00.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A

Reply:I like my Thermal Arc Dragster 80.  It runs off a 20 amp breaker.  The Miller 150 is nice however you ain't getting something for nothing.  It is rated at 70 amps out put from 17.4 amps input. I think 80-85 amps output is the most you are going to get from 20 amp input.

Reply:Chamfertrod You need to look at the product literature for the Maxstar.  According to it the max output at 110v is 100 amps at 35% duty cycle and >26amps input.I just threw that out there because some very good points were made about upgrading to a 30 amp breaker.  It could be difficult.  I rather have actual power than potential power.  Without the proper current you'd have a pretty blue box that could one day put out 100 amps with a 30amp breaker.I actually was looking at upgrading to the miller.  I do a lot of installing with my TA80.  I use household current much of the time.  Anyway the Miller doesn't look any better for what I need.   I need to think of another excuse to buy one now.The 220v potential of this machine is not an issue, since he won't have access to 220v.  I think amp for amp the two machines are closer than you think.

Reply:Chamfer,  it ain't that serious.  No literature reading necessary, I owned a Maxstar150STL and have since stepped up to a Dynasty.
Reply:I understand it's not that serious, and I'm far from offended. It just seemed you were touting the TA product, an 85 amp'er for that matter, over a 150A machine in a thread about the most powerful 110v unit.Thermal does make a 160A machine, unfortunately it is hard on power draw as well.
