So, I finally ordered my torch outfit, it's a Harris Steelworker 510 outfit. I bought it online from a welding supply store. I called 'em up and asked if it was good for propane. He offered to switch the acet. regulator out for a propane and he switched out the acet. tips for propane tips. Now, I have two 20# propane cylinders for the BBQ. I know I still need an oxygen bottle, thinking about an 80ft3 cylinder. In the meantime, can I still heat and bend metal with just the propane, or do I need to mix in oxygen to get the right amount of heat? I know I need oxygen to cut, but do I need it to heat? Mostly thin stuff, up to 1/4", maybe 3/8"
Reply:Not much heat from a o/f fuel tip without oxygen.A turbo torch or propane (benzomatic) torch would work better.I do think you will be satisfied with oxy/propane. You do need to oxy for satifactory heating though.I use 20lbs tanks and 80 tank, also.
Reply:Get the biggest oxy tank you can get, you'll burn through the O2 much more quickly than the propane if you do a lot of cutting. There are a variety of air-propane tips for heating.
Reply:g'day , when using oxy/propane , we use a 45 kilogram propane bottle and a "g" size oxygen bottle around 5 ft tall , it lasts us long enough the propane lasts forever . 76gmc1500 , what company makes these air propane tips , i havent ever seen any here in australiaaustralian welding kid - i can fix it for ya sure its gonna cost
Reply:I'm not sure, I'm not seeing anything listed anywhere.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 06-04-2007 at 02:13 PM. |
