I'm waiting on my new #20 Flex Torch to come in, but when it does I will not be finish my cooler. I build 95% of my tools, incluing my Wire Feeder and will be building my Cooler, but waiting for the slow boat for the pumps and a few other thing. I have few tight spots on my frame to gusset and my heavy #26 is just too much to squeeze in.Any probs to running a few welds with no coolant running to the torch? If so I have 2 other #17's that are a little less bulky, but the flex head will be my saving grace.
Reply:Sure you can use it. It will be like using a air cooled WP-9. Just keep the amps down below 125www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:If you try it, weld quick because you won't be welding long without running coolant. MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:The argon runs through the power hose the same as it does on a WP9 the only difference is you can feed water through the torch "head" to cool it at high amps so you will be able to weld thicker metal for a longer time.www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Reply:The torch might last a couple minutes. I burned one out at work because I set an angle iron frame down on the water out hose and it didn't take long to have steam pouring out of the melted water hose right next to the connection in the head.

That is why the preferred choice is AC, or in layman's terms "always correct". Kind of think solar, you know global warming, and global cooling when we have volcanic activity.
Reply:Ahhh.I haven't welded them yet as I've been sidetracked by a few other shop projects and the birth of my 3rd child. Reply:Originally Posted by MikeGyverYou have no idea what you're talking about. Please stop giving people advise.A WP20 has less copper int he power lead than a wp9, they are not the same. Running a wp20 dry is a very bad idea.Water returns from the torch through the power lead. The copper in the power lead is directly cooled by the water which allows a small amount of copper to carry a large current without it melting like a fuse. |
