Reply:OTC Daihen used to make a cold wire feed TIG gun.I've used a couple of these torches for the last 30 years and find they help to produce faster welds than can be done by hand dip rod. here its rigged for mild steel wire but ss, copper and aluminum all work as well.I made few mod's of the control pots' locations to make one hand control easier for me. The wire speed is above the remote heat control the trigger initiates arc and stops or in the case of the Dynasty can initiate the stop start sequences if you're using them?Welds OK on aluminum, here: edge to edge, outside corner, 1/8" 5086 w 5356 filler,  using 0.035" filler wire and travel was about 5/8"-3/4" per second with 3/32 pure, 200 (approx) A, 126 pps (62% H; 47% background) HF 250, Bal 72, pure argon #8 cup, gas lens; pattern or puddle is by movement during travel. some homemade pipe fittings on the positioner in an 'automatic' mode- 316 screw pipe adapters. Mainly good for crawling around a boat to be able to weld in all four positions with full reliability. Being short coupled the wire feed is constant and also longer welds can be done without pausing.Back to aluminum; its hardest for me to feed very thin wire as filler without a TIG pencil or hand tube so to carry a narrow bead on thinner aluminum I couldn't do these welds without the gun to feed small wire.  You can keep the arc about 1/3 the diameter of the tungsten and move fast enough to allow the pulse and high (relative) amperage to create a narrow bead- but only if I can "keep both hands on the handle".Here the inside fillet is about 5/32" wide and is done at about 3/4" per second in order to move quickly enough to avoid overheating the HAZ and getting a contraction distortion of the surrounding plate/sheet.I think wire feed TIG is the "best" way to weld, at least its the most fun for me.  cheersKevin Morin

Reply:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZyntkRFXto[/ame]not sure how much they cost but there are companies already making this.
Reply:I'll have to keep a look out on ebay for one of those OTC 300 Tiguns. Meanwhile..... are there any third party cold wire feed tig accessories that are less than a grand??? The TIG ProII is $1200 and that just seems like way to much for a machine that essentially feeds wire manually. you can download the entire user manual here:http://profaxlenco.com/images/Manual/Manuals/07200.pdf
Reply:thanks for the reply, the CK wire feeders are still made and go for over $2,000 new. Finding one for a few hundred dollars would be a steal.I will look on craigslist maybe I will get lucky.

Reply:I've been thinking of this since I watched last night. I have a little flux core century 80 welder I never use. I am thinking of disconnecting the power supply part of it and just use the feeder for the TIG. I don't want a permanent fixture on my TIG torch so I was thinking just some slim hand held feeder gun with a trigger. So it would be much like holding the filler wire but instead of shuffling fingers to feed the wire I would just push a button.
