Long time lurker first time poster. I recently bought the Thermal Arc 181. I tried tig welding for the first time yesterday. Please feel free to speak your mind. Good? Reply:First time? You did good. Do you have the optional foot pedal? Your setup looks spot on too.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:First time with the Tig. I have been mig welding for about 10 years though. I do not have the foot pedal. From what I have read it makes a big difference.
Reply:For your first attempt that is great, keep it up! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:that's how it's supposed to look---nice, clean, freshly flap-disked shiny metal. So many guys just barely scrape off the mill scale and then wonder why their welds aren't up to par.
Reply:Im impressed with your work ethnic in that your prep is perfect.......that in mind always start with a clean work piece and the rest will come with time....... Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:Not bad, lets see the back. I agree it's nice to see someone do a decent job of prep for a change. On thin material, you may need to clean both sides or you may pull the contamination thru from the back..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
