found this on ebay. just wandering if this is a good price? thanks guys!http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-4-X-9-EXPA...item2556f5f28a
Reply:Unless it's local, I can't imagine buying off ebay is worth it...shipping on any materials would be insane.

Reply:Don't you have a metal supplier around?I just bought a 4'x8' sheet of #9 by 1 1/2 expected metal.For $59.And I'm in Alaska.Surely you have a sheet metal shop you could buy a drop from.Dirt cheap bro.
Reply:I haven't checked the local metal shops, because I was told expanded metal was very costly. so I will look into it and see if I can get a sheet for that price. thanks
Reply:Cut to the chase and skip metal shops and go directly to your nearest steel or scrap yard. Prices will be low enough to forget about eBay providers.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:I tried to buy things there before. like motors and such and they wouldn't sell anything. I don't know if metal would be any different???

Reply:The reason we talk about expanded steel being expensive is because of the price per pound.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:I have a scrap yard within 5-6 miles of me and they will sell what ever I can find by the pound. I have found t posts, steel trusses, Ibeam, expanded metal, welding table, tin horns. I always check there first. Kinda like Christmas only better. Haul a load of scrap in and a load of goodies out. LOL My wife put the Sanford and Son ring tone on my phone.
Reply:Sanford and son!! lol!! good one! ole fred..
Reply:Make friends at a local weld/fab shop. I have bought steel for a few cents more a pound than what they buy it for. I usually will take what they have(size or thickness) to save moving and cutting.I have ordered from this same place when I needed to but I try and know exactly what I need and pay cash so I don't make a pest of myself. You MAY be able to set up an account with an industrial steel supplier.Last edited by vwguy3; 10-08-2014 at 09:04 AM.
Reply:Originally Posted by #1SomeGuyDepends on where you are, might be $15 for you but not necessarily for the OP. Regardless, with shipping of $15 say it's still over $30 for ONE sheet...I can get the same at even home depot for $20 let alone the scrap yard or metal supplier.

Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749You'll find that some scrap yards sell useable material, some don't. We have two locally, one has a division that deals specifically in usable metals, etc the other, not so much. The place that does is very reasonable and dude will deal with you. The other place, it's strictly by the pound and you gotta dig for it.As was said, it just depends on where you live.I imagine if you needed anything, you just grabbed it from the railyard's shop Roy
