So I got the call this morning that the bastard forestry machine was at the shop and being taken apart just for little old me to fix. I headed over and proceeded to pull the leaking piston with the mechanic. Got it on horses and worked like a human.so we meet again.....Self peeling slag, I love it....All done and I even painted it....A little some thing extra, some build up and hardfacing on a wear edgeAll done, the right way, no fires, and no bull$hit.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:TIG root and 7018 fill-cap on the cylinder. I TIG welded the bad edge, then broke out the feeder and ran it out once it was no longer paper thin. Hardfacing was .045 Hobart Fabtuff 960 with 100% CO2.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:How do you get it clean enough to tig the cylinder. Every time I weld one oil cooks out for a long time. Nice repairMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer

Reply:No fires...Well I suppose thats a good thing. You made the repair look easy and I imagine it wasn't.Ps I've started my share of fires and learned from each one (thankfully).I hope theres NO more on my horizen (knock.) and yes I read your previous thread.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
Reply:Nice repair! Probably easier that the cylinder was out in the open than buried in the machine! That goes without sayin'! Keep up the excellent work! |
