What are you using for drill press clamps with T slots? This looks pretty slick and I don't think my students would lose it.http://www.travers.com/prodlist.asp?...h%3D61-171-001Thanks

Reply:We modified C-clamps. Cut them in half, used the screw section and welded a plate with a hole to the cut body. Then use a standard T nut and stud. When I get home I will take pictures.Syncrowave 350Coolmate 3Millermatic 251Spoolmatic 30A

Reply:Looks like a Welch Cam-Lock Drill Press Clamp... patent #3345889. TCC looks like a knock off. I'd love to have one on my drill press. Here's the patent if you'd like to build one:http://home.lewiscounty.com/~forhire/US3345889.pdfHere's some clamps I made for a drill operation:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=92621 Attached Images
Reply:Don't have any pics but I cut 4 cheap small c-clamps in half and brazed 1/2 bolts to them. Works will if I'm not using one of my vises.
Reply:That's a great tool to have but out here in the sticks I'll have to make my own. I could really use one. Thanks guys.

Reply:I got the HF one too. I even used it on the HF band saw. Can't beat it for the money.
Reply:I use big C-clamps from the top to the bottom of the table and use a X-Y table with a vise. Very very very rarely do I have a part to big or odd to fit in the vise and have to pull the table off the drill table.
Reply:The one in the lower portion of the pick is what I use currently with tee slots. They were my fathers from his machinist days. I have two with different length "legs". They could be easily be made out of flat bar. Assorted length of bolts or all thread works for the fasteners. The nut is a uni-strut with the spring removed. Speed doesn't factor in as it's tighened with a wrench. The one in the upper half is similar to the HF, but was made by Vise Grip. They work well with open slot tables but need mod to work with tee slots. As far as "loosing" them............. I think we know how that's going to go. Make several and hide them. Attached Images
Reply:It wouldn't be too hard to adapt a toggle clamp to make something similar to the Welch Cam-Lock."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:I figured out a down and dirty and cheap solution. I need to take about .0040-.0050 off the top of the nut to make it work, plus trim the bolt length. Just a $1 flat sided nut from Ace. I am also going to cut the head off the other bolt to make a t nut. Simple solution for a Saturday when nothing is open. Attached Images
Reply:Oh, the OP asked about T-slots.I was thinking T slots. My drill press has T-slots like a mill. So I was all excited to see something I didn't have. Ok. Nevermind. Reply:Works great. I try to stress to my students that they don't want to turn the drill press into a circular saw. Attached Images
Reply:Somebody used to make the big brother to this jorganson T slot clamp. Pretty slick, slide the nuts in place slide the clamp up, finger tighten the flange nut wiggle around & clamp the part. Link to the small jorganson one here - [ame]http://www.amazon.com/1623-HOLD-DOWN-CLAMP-3-Inch/dp/B0000DD1RD[/ame]I think forhire ought'a start making them...Matt

Reply:Wow.. This is a great thread!
Reply:Some pretty good ingenuity in this thread. Way too think out sid the box. Little bits of information's to store up in my brain space for the future time when I actually have a place to put a drill press. |
