I have a protools 105 bender and right now I have a die Ive got is for 3/4 pipe (3/4 pipe had on od of 1.05) Now is there any reason I could bend some 1 inch tube with that pipe die? Now that isnt much of a difference but say I bought a 1 5/8 tube die and wanted to bend 1 1/4 pipe (od 1.66) there would be a difference of about 5/32...now I know the bend may not be perfect but is there any risk of damaged the die?
Reply:The outcome depends a lot on what wall thickness the tubing is, what radius the bend is, and what degree you are bending to.Thinner wall tubing is more likely to distort if the die isn't the correct size.I have a part that I make for a company that requires 3/4" pipe. It has (2) 90* bends in it and for quite awhile I was using an 1.125"x4.5" clr die in my JD2 model 3 bender. It worked fine and I never had any problems with the bends or the dies but I finally decided to buy the proper one when I had to purchase a different clr for another part.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Ditto.I had to bend some schedule 40 6061 T6 1-1/2 (I believe) and I knew I would not be bending that stuff again anytime soon. So I bought the 2 inch tubing bender for my JD2 Model 4 and it worked great. I am SURE there was some distortion, but I couldn't see it, so in my opinion it worked.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v  Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
