Safety Recall - Milwaukee 14.4 and 18 v batteries

FYI folks, Milwaukee battery packs for 14.4 and 18 v tools have a safety recall.The 'bad' batteries were made between July 1999 and February 2004, and could be Milwaukee or Chicago Pneumatic or Extractor brand.Full notice of the recall can be found at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07234.htmlor on the www.milwaukeetool.com website.

Reply:I have 3 Black and Decker 14.4V Drills and love'm..There is a B+D Factory outlet store close enough to me...I can get a brand new drill with a charger and battery cheaper there than a battery alone anywhere else..Soon enough I'll have 10 drills!!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Yeah "lots and lots of batteries"!!  Like "about 1 million" (from the CPSC blurb)!CPSC lists "made in Mexico" for the bad batteries.Go to the Milwaukee website and get the PDF of detailed date codes and product descriptions of the 'bad' batteries.  Short answer is Ni-Cad 14.4 and 18 V 2.4 Ah (amp-hour) packs, certain date codes only.  If your Milwaukee (or other company) battery was made after Feb 2004, it is not afected by the recall.Problem is a safety vent that can get damaged and then the battery goes BOOM.  Boom with a capitol B, making the battery turn into pieces of battery flying at high speed into your body and loud enough to cause hearing loss.No web access?  Well, you're reading this, but you can call Milwaukee at 1-800-SAWDUST.

Reply:As far as the batteries holding a charge for 4 months, yes.  As far as actual use of the tools, I can't say.  I just sold them, I don't have anything good as far as cordless tools go, except the cordless dremel.PatrickLincoln 175HD
