I built this by hand and mostly by myself in under 2 weeks. Some things like the rafters and the roof I needed a tiny bit of help. All for under a thousand dollars too.A bit rough right now, but it can be improved in time. Also don't even start on the posts, cedar is incredibly rot resistant.

Reply:Hekh, I got my wife to "approve" me getting a welder in the first place with a "But honey, look how much we'll save by building our own stuff" argument and it worked. I built my first project; a shop stool out of an old bed frame I found on out on our property! Just don't burn anything down and you're golden!
Reply:That is a very airy shop. no problem with to much smoke to breath comfortably.  I like your vise. What kind is it?  it looks kind of like a parker to me. I'm a vise freak.  Mighty nice anvil to. A vise and an anvil and a big hammer and a welder will cure almost any problem with unruly iron. Like you say every thing can be improved but now you have a place to work. Bitchin.   Mac

Reply:Thanks for sharing.  I built a couple of wooden work tables in 08 or so, and have done plenty of welding onto their OSB surfaces, with no real fires.  I was lucky. They've been retired from fabrication use for four years.  I wish you luck, and success.AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup

Reply:Nice work!I've found that metalworkers think metal when they want to build something and woodworkers think wood.If you cover your worktable with a piece of 1/8" sheet metal it will be easier to weld on it and it will not catch fire.
Reply:Looks like a great shop to me. Just having a designated place that is yours, where you can put your tools and projects is the main thing. You will spend a lot of enjoyable hours there.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:Looks fine to me.  My barn was traditional wood studs.  I used hardi plank 4x8 sheets to cover the bottom 4 foot of the walls on the inside.  I am planning the same for my metal garage now.  I don't know how cold it gets where you live but one of those jet heaters should help kill the chill in the winter."G"ConductorX - The Volkswright Shophttp://volkswright.blogspot.com/http://bugwerks.blogspot.com/Miller DVI w/Spoolgun - Miller Plasma Cutter
Reply:Perfect, you did great and all for under a grand! And you could always add and improve as you go, and now you have your own shop! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Hey, that's a cool little shop. I like 'rustic' and hey, you did it yourself and got a nice little shop for a reasonable cost. Looks like a sliding door, but I also see hinges?
Reply:I really like it!  Do you have any plans for the flooring at all?  Not to mention if it smells like cedar in there, sweet!JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)
Reply:I like...... Anytime you can build your own work space, it's a good thing. You must be down South or somewhere where it is warm. Here, I'd freeze to death in that building most of the year.I use plywood across two saw horses as my welding table.. only a few small fires. I might look into the 1/8 sheet metal idea to cover my plywood.... Not sure if this is a good idea or not......Anyway, carry on and enjoy your new shop.Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal

Reply:Very, very nice!!I too work in a wood building... Just dont leave flammable sh*t around (rags, papers, etc) and hang around for 30-45-60 mins after the last arc is struck...I like it, have fun [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:That's a HUGE shop for $1,000.  Very nice!
Reply:Was going to ask if you had to dress like that all the time!  Nice shop and great back yard - reminds me of my youth near Binghamton.  I like the "ventilation" for the welding shop, and wood is a "quick and dirty" way to get stuff built.  Although yours looks like you really know what you're doing! Seems I'm using my woodworking tools and furniture skills on every welding project anyhow, never caught anything on fire yet - err ... except myself(!) - grinder sparks across both pockets and the crotch of my jeans a few decades ago!   Enjoy the shop!

Reply:You built that for under a grand? do you have a mill or something? Cedar ain't cheap. It's a beauty though. There are no problems. There are only solutions.
