Hi to you all, I have a job in an ammonia refrigeration system, the insulation on the pipes was to be changued.. Long story short... I came to the moment of making the valves jakets. Elbows and Tees. So, I need a compass o well... maybe more... So i was cheking some videos and I like a desing in a Canadian Institute.,... So I decide to make mine... This is the first try.. I think it came pretty well I dont like much the material (Mild steel) it bows a litte bit... on the small circles. So I need some ideas for improve this and the next I will need. (I know may be there is a store to buy this... but at current time I havent found one) So, I hope have write this rigth...

Reply:they are made of a harder /spring type of steel so they wont flex as much
Reply:Many old-timers started with far worse. It looks like you made a set of calipers instead of a compass though.

Reply:Hello AlexLPD, here is an example of a beam trammel that I built a lot of years back. It utilizes carbide threaded scribe tips and fits onto a 3/8" X1" flat bar, I use aluminum stock. I also have a number of different lengths of beams that I use this with. The smallest circle that it will currently scribe is about 3/4". If I had machined the threaded hole in the trammel points off-center and closer to the edge of each trammel body I could have probably gotten an even smaller circle scribing capability. Reply:Yes its the first attemp, I dont have a forge rigth know... so I heated up with the good old oxy-torch, put in the bender and cut the ends with a cut disc, the points were filed ..Thank you !
